Brief Description:

LANL Foundation offers scholarships in partnership with the Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund (LAESF) to students from Northern New Mexico to pursue 4-year degrees. LANL Foundation has over 25 unique types of scholarships that range from $1,000 to $20,000 over four years for students pursuing undergraduate degrees in any field of study. LANL Scholars are selected based on a demonstrated commitment to academic achievement, leadership and service. Financial need is also taken into consideration. 


Description:

LANL Foundation offers scholarships in partnership with the Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund (LAESF) to high school graduates and current undergraduate students from Northern New Mexico to pursue 4-year degrees. 

Scholarships support students in any field of study. Students pursuing a 4-year undergraduate degree submit one application in order to be considered for over 25 unique types of scholarships. The LAESF Advisory Committee evaluates all applications in attempt to match applicants with any awards for which they are eligible and selects the strongest candidates in each category to receive an award.

LANL Foundation has a variety of scholarships that range from $1,000 to $20,000 over four years for students pursuing undergraduate degrees in any field of study. LANL Scholars are selected based on a demonstrated commitment to academic achievement, leadership and service. Financial need is also taken into consideration. 

Any resident of Northern New Mexico with at least a 3.25 cumulative unweighted grade point average (GPA), who is enrolling in or currently attending an accredited post-secondary educational institution is eligible to apply. For the purpose of these scholarships, residency is defined as having your permanent home address in New Mexico for at least the past 366 days. Northern New Mexico includes Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe, and Taos counties.

Application Portfolio Requirements:

A complete application portfolio will contain the following materials:

All Applicants

  • Submit two letters of recommendation 
    • 1 academic and 1 extracurricular (from a coach, supervisor, employer, community or Tribal leader, etc)
    • Or, 2 academic letters of recommendation
  • Submit up to 4 essays (up to 250 words each) describing the following:
    1. Personal objectives in pursuing a college degree
    2. Involvement in leadership activities 
    3. Community impact
    4. Special circumstances or challenges (optional)

High School Seniors

  • Copy of their high school academic transcript(s), which includes grades for the first semester of senior year
  • Copies of transcripts from post-secondary institutions for coursework not listed on the high school transcript

Current Undergraduate Students

  • College first-years must include their high school and current college transcripts
  • College sophomores, juniors and seniors must include a copy of their current college transcript


Application Process:

Completed renewal application materials must be submitted electronically by January 18, 2022 by 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time.
